Intro to Blacksmithing - Part 1

Time: 8 AM - Noon

Where: 1215 Whitney Road, Kemptville ON

 

Experience the lost art of blacksmithing!

Join us for a four-hour hands-on introduction to "smithing" where you'll learn all the basics you need to get started in this truly fun and engaging hobby.  After enjoying coffee and pastries, participants will be familiarized with the various tools of the trade and learn how to use them effectively. 


What you'll experience:

  • Work with propane forges

  • Learn to heat and shape various sizes and types of steel

  • Create your own small metal project to take home

  • Receive personalized guidance from an experienced blacksmith


Note: This workshop is designed for beginners. It is NOT a knife-making course.

Safety requirements:

  • Snug-fitting leather work gloves (welder-type gloves preferred)

  • Steel-toed work BOOTS (no exceptions)

  • Eye protection

  • No loose-fitting or highly flammable clothing

  • A signed liability waiver

  • 18+ (no exceptions)

 

Cost: 150$ per person 

Class size: Limited to 6 people to ensure lots of time on the anvils

Intro to Blacksmithing - Part 2


When: 
Saturday, May 17 (FULL)
Saturday, May 24 (3 spots available)


Time: 8 AM - Noon

Where: 1215 Whitney Road, Kemptville ON

 

Who’s it for?
This workshop is open to anyone who has completed the 1215 Metalworks Introduction to Blacksmithing (Part 1) or can provide proof of completing a similar course elsewhere.

 

What to expect:
With a
maximum of 3 participants, this hands-on workshop offers you the chance to forge a complete project from start to finish. You can choose your own design—either from online inspiration or from my collection. If your project is manageable within the 4-hour time frame, I’ll guide you through the entire process so you can leave with a finished piece of your own making.

Beginner project ideas:

  • Coat rack, bonfire poker, candle holder, hot dog forks, hummingbird feeder/shepherd hook...


Cost:
$150 + materials (Once your idea is submitted, I’ll provide an estimate for materials.) Payment must be made upfront. No refunds. ⁣

Due to shop limitations and insurance restrictions, NO knives, swords, or other weapons can be forged. 18+ (no exceptions)

Haven’t done Part 1 yet?
There are still a few spots open on May 3 for the Intro to Blacksmithing - Part 1 workshop. If demand is there, we will consider scheduling an additional session on May 10.
